I can not spell, I can not type, I should not be allowed to type ANYTHING that might show up in public - yes, I am aware of these facts!

    I am busy annoying people

So, Photobucket has deleted my pictures - I hate when companies change their TOS and don't give ME a chance to adjust. Is an e-mail too much to ask?

I am bugging the County OF LA about their Homeless case Management system being difficult to explain to CCRC (they pay for Child care) - hopefully someone else will pick up this tourch

I am bugging my friends because I have some choices to make - Surgery or no surgery- grad school or no go , change jobs or kep the one I love, forgive the boy for all his lies and sink into a bad pattern or find something/one else to keep me occupied. Should I tell him about the ad onCraig's List?- Naaah, that was just for me!

I have lots to say, I have just not had the time to write it down, but, like the CA Govenator- "I'll be back".

    the LAPD

I live where I grew up - in a beautiful city that has fewer than 90 police offers to care for it. For the most part, crime is low and I feel pretty safe walking around at night or sleeping with the doors open (which is good since my slumlord, I mean land lord won't soon fix the lock - but I have been asking for 5 years, so maybe soon?!?!?......).

I grew up thinking that in a crisis, you asked your local patrolman for help. If you needed something - the cops manning the street lights during racetrack season could give you guidance. Police men and women made me feel safe, secure, and protected... unless they were driving because when was the last time YOU saw a police car use a turn blinker?

Then, I went to work on the row - Skid Row Los Angeles that is.  Skid row where if you needed the police to come within half an hour you dialed 911 and siad "I'm white and I'm scared". If you needed them to come within 15 minutes you had to say "I'm white, scared, and calling from inside my Mercedes". This isn't a joke - I was really told this in my job orientation.

You hear alot of press about the LAPD, and most of ti is bad. In my experience, this bad pres has been sanitised for public consumption. Whatever you hear - imagine the worst possible associated behavior and that is closer to the truth. In my experience, if I had an emergency I PRAYED thay the Fire Dept. showed up first. Fire fighters at least saw the people who lived in the area, LAPD just saw the trash that slept on the streets.

Once day I was dropping a client off at a 12 step meeting in a homeless drop in center and I ignored the policeman strutting at the front door. I worked there, he didn't and if I socialized with the police I would lose the trust and credibility of my clients who are routinely haraased by them. When I left the building and got into my car - the police car followed me. If tou have ever seen me drive, you know I Grandma drive - I don't run Yellows, I fully stop before I turn right, I strain my neck looking 'right, left, right again' and I will wait forever for walkers to clear the street before I go through a crosswalk. the lights went on anyway - and I pulled over, rolled down my window and waited while the officer came to my window. Placeing one hand on the foof he leaned into my window and asked why I ignored him in the building. I asked him why he pulle me over and he demanded that I answer his question of he would take me in for questioning. I pointed to my lit cellphone and said he moight want to do that since I had dialed the crisis hotline at my work while waiting for him and our conversation was being recorded. His face turned red and he said I was free to go.

Where I live, I honor the police department - but when in LA - try to stay away from them. I have called skid rowdrug dealers and asked them for help when my car was broken down and it wasn't until the next day that someone asked why I didn't call the police as their station was 2 blocks away. The answer - if you have guns, knives and beat up on people as a hobby- I might trust you because you know who you are - if you have guns and pepperspray and beat up on people because it is your job - I probably saw you on TV in the May Day Melee.

    local politics are heating up

Once upon a time the big Arcadian issue was "There is nothing to do in Arcadia, we have 2 bowling alleys, one pizza joint and a sticky floored theater hidden in the mall."

Then, the hot button issue was "Should Denny's take off the windmill blades from the building it is in - the one that used to be Tiny Naylor’s and Van de camps?" (my people have been stuck up Arcadians for a really long time and our memory goes back a century.)

The racetrack has been rebuilt 2 and relocated, used as an internment camp, and the city itself felt like a prison to it's youth who used to have to escape ti neighboring towns to have a good time. We are a community of homes, nice, stable, homes - and the occasional McMansion. (Here is my shout out to Gary Kovasic for knocking that blight out!)

Now we have 1 bowling ally, 1 theater, a batch of pizza joints and possible 2 malls side by side on Huntington Drive.

I always loved that the mall and racetrack sat side by side like some very stereotypical staunch couple - shopping for the women in the mall to the left and a really cool racetrack off to the right for the men.  The racetrack has a WONDERFUL parking lot - if you are all about parking lots - it goes on seemingly forever. The mall has parking like a clogged toilet - often I just walk across Baldwin and Huntington to the movies and make it inside the building 10 minutes faster than if I drove. You can NOT park there. You may WANT to park there, need to park there, have fantasies of parking there – but you simply can not do it. - and by the way, the little numbers that tell you how many spaces are left???? They LIE!!!!!!

The Santa Anita Mall jumped the shark when they added on the new AMC (which I patronize like a film addict because, 1. it is less than a mile from my home, 2. the customer service ROCKS my Socks!, 3. You can bring in your own food and escape the wallet-raping of most concession counters, and 4. it always has a good selection of flicks) and Dave and Buster’s (which I avoid because of the drunkenness and gang activities and the number of patrons I have seen escorted out of the mall from there). These simple additions were poorly planned because they took up parking that was often full before and increased crime and traffic without so much as an “oops, did I do that?!?!?” ala Urkle.

When Caruso came over and started sniffing around, he offered a lot of good perks.

    1. Free parking to Arcadia residents and paid parking for everyone else – guess what – that is sales tax in my city’s coffers!
    2.  a shuttle buss from his shops to the Santa Anita mall and back . – you mean I can park ONCE and shop EVERYWHERE without having to hunt my car down until I am totally done?
    3. A theater for the school distinct.  – we have world class musicians in this city (and ego maniac as I am, I like to think I am one of them and have been trained by the best that Public schools can offer (Art Farr, Tom Forbs, Tom Landis, Mr. Davis, Diane Lucas, and Roland Maxon) and growing up we always had to go to another city to perform.
    4. Offices for the School District – wow – no more creepy trailer like building
    5. Apartments attached to the building – um, like in New Yorkl and San Francisco?!?!? Loft style- keeping the land in constant use- - I want to live there!!!!
    6. High priced but also high quality shops (the mall SERIOUSLY entertained bringing Wal*Mart into the mall – horror of horros!), so I can have a variety of windows to shop in and restraints to eat at – and ALL of it is SALES TAX for the city.

Growing up in Arcadia means you know a couple of things about traffic – it is scary in race track season, drivers are either too elated to focus on the road or too sad to care if they hit you and you see rent-a-Cops on every scorner like Salvation Army Bell ringers at Christmas. The other thing you learn is that the residents here literally cannot drive. I have seen cars drive on the sidewalk, wedged into shop windows (That one was my little brother’s doing!) and using the bike lane as a fast lane and the Middle of the avenue turning lane as a drop off point for school kids. I already walk to the mall – don’t think your increased traffic scare tactics will work on me.

I am mad because Westfield is lying to me and my people. They are saying things like “The Shops at Santa Anita will have a casino and gambling” . . . say WHAT?!?!? There will be no casino or slit machines. There will be the same boring betting mechanisms the race track has had for a while now. As for gambling??!  Well, I highly doubt they will be handing out poker chips at the coffee spots –I imaging gambling in arcadia will be EXACTLY as it has been for years – in the race track (You did know people bet on those horses didn’t you?!?! What, you never saw The Black Stallion or Sea Biscuit?!?!?) and no where else.

I totally get that Westfield has been competing with Caruso for years and many other venues, but I abhor a liar… and dang it, I WANT the race track to have something fancy schmancy for me to hang out at.

This is one of my local news men!

    Hate crimes and good parenting

Now, I know we all have feelings and behaviors that our parents did not plant in us -
but KUDOS to the parents of the 15 year old Redlands CA boy who called the police and turned his bum beating butt in when they heard him brag about beating a homeless man and say he had video taped it on his cell phone.

Homeless Beatings are a Hate Crime

    In 2006

    106 homeless people were attacked

    20 more were killed

6 more were set on fire.these numbers are from a report by National Coalition for the Homeless.

To me, this signifies a Hate Crime. I understand that homelessness is a possibility for all of us and we have great fear that given a fire, flood, corrupt banker, physical or mental illness - we could fall to this level of need and dependence on other people.
Frankly, it scares me too and keeps me trudging to work day after day. Inheritance aside - I don't want to depend on anyone to make my life possible.

I think it is this fear that sparks hate - as if we could vilify those who remind us of out fear by embodying it - and living our nightmare right in front of us. If we could kill them or scare them off, we could calm our own nerves.

Alarming me most in the report is the favt that the haters, beaters, and fire starters are mostly teenagers. I think I was more comfortable with the 2 little biddies running over people for the insurance policy - Greed I get - Fear and teenagers? I hope I never understand.

    paperwork

The Welfare system is awash in paperwork. Flodded with it actually. Aarrgh! I may be choked to death on service request forms. There is just not enough time to get everyone served and it is killing me!

It is terribly hard to be poor and humbling to ask for public assistance. If the county tells you to go to school and then won,t help you pay for books... How are you going to do well in your classes. As the social worker involved' I feel like a failure because I can,ty reach out and hand the girl money. Aarrggh.

    hmmm

So I wonder if all my emailed posts will be showing up now that I have fixed the sync error on my phone. I did alot of swearing under my breath this weekend
